What Is a Vitamin?
The word "vitamin" was created in 1912 by Dr. Casimir Funk of the Lister Institute who combined the Latin word "vita" (meaning life) with the word "amine" (which refers to a category of nitrogen-containing organic compounds). The word "vitamine" was later changed to "vitamin" (the "e" was dropped) when it was discovered not all vitamins were amines.
